So I thought a swift blog post was in order. Not only to support these causes, but also pass on to you some great gift ideas. The first was brought to my attention in ‘You’ magazine, particularly well timed with my own birthday on the horizon. notonthehighstreet.com (NOTHS) is a treasure trove of gift ideas by small scale artists and designers. Not only has it created a business with an estimated turnover of £4.5 million for it’s founders Sophie Cornish and Holly Tucker, but has provided an income to so many more people. It isn’t exactly easy to get your work out there, never mind make a profit, but NOTHS provides a vehicle to do exactly that. Unfortunately though I want nearly everything on it, talk about magpie and shiny objects…..

My second find is ‘SAVE TIM from BANKRUPTCY’. Hat off to this guy. Faced with losing not only his business, but his home aswell, he put himself out there – through Facebook. When the recession hit his printing business, which concentrated on artwork for high end restaurants and businesses, Tim Messom threw himself at the mercy of people on Facebook. He offered the service of printing people’s photos onto canvas at extremely low prices and explained exactly why he was doing it. The group has more than 11,000 fans. He’s even gone so far to say that the response has restored his faith in human nature. So two mid-week heart warming stories for you all. Plus I know my partner will be reading this – a bit of pre-birthday heavy hinting never hurt anyone.
